163 mining area in the Jin Qiu coal mine belong to thin coal seam and orbital roadway 16301 is the half-coal roadway. As the engineering background in the paper, the movement rule of top roof in the gob-side entry-retaining, Supporting mechanism of half-coal roadway, Scheme design of the gob-side entry-retaining, how to support the wall of coal roadway, and how to support roadway is analyzed. The supporting resistance is calculated from the aspect of bearing limit of filling material. The cutting resistance and the width of the filling body are calculated through iteration method. The bearing capacity of coal is used fully by the method of giving limited movement of roof and strengthening temporary supporting of roof. The waste-rock band and single prop are combined to support the early roof, that waste-rock band is used as the inner template of filling and which greatly reduce the process of filling, cancel temporary ventilation of filling areas, ensure the safety of the workers. The effect of the gob-side entry retaining in the width of different filling body and in different temporary supporting is simulated by numerical simulation software FLAC3D. The scheme was carried out in the 16301 working face and monitoring station were set up, the effect of supporting roof is well under the supporting of the waste-rock band and single prop, which protect the integrity of filling body.There are the following conclusions through the practice: (1) In the gob-side entry retaining under the condition of hard roof, the strata should be fully used to protect the roof of roadway, the fracture point of the roof is as far away from the filling body as possible. (2) Strengthen the support of the temporary roof in the gob-side entry retaining, protect the early filling body, and make full use of the bearing capacity of coal.(3) Strengthen the advance support of the roadway in the gob-side entry retaining, protect the integrity of the coal wall of the roadway, which avoid the excessive destruction.
