The Creation Of A Defect Dictionnary For Automotive Fabrics And The Way To Reduce Defects

Since 1990s,driven by the rapid development of the global automotive industry,the automobile decoration industry increased dramatically.Textiles,as a major type of interior material,provides a broad platform for the individualization of the vehicle interior.It's considered that the fabric used is one important factor for customers to chose their cars.With the overall quality gap of different brands of cars narrows,automotive interiors become the new battleground of competition.In order to meet the needs of the customers and consumers,especially automotive suppliers,Michel Thierry Group has started a plan to reduce the textile defects detected by the clients.The first step of this plan consist in improving the internal detection of visual defect.It is under this circumstance that this project is born.The final objective of this project is to create a tool to help detect defects and solve quality problems in the group.In this paper,the main research contents and conclusions are as follows:Firstly,to create a visual defects library of automotive interior textile for the whole group.Based on the analysis and research of defects data and customer claims data collected over the years by Michel Thierry Group branch offices in France,Spain,we have decided 48 important defects for the defect dictionary.(1)the definition of each defect and description of defect characteristics in English,French,Chinese and other languages.(2)within the group,using the new defect library system,after the implementation of two months,the internal detection rate of defect has been increased.Secondly,through research and analysis of fabric defects,to analyze the root cause for defects and to explore the immediate actions and preventive measure to reduce fabric defects.Thirdly,to make several quality tools.In order to help the quality department to make right decisions and react as soon as possible when they find out fabric defects,by assembling all the important defects and their major causes,we have created several simple quality tools.With the help of these tools,the users have been able to find out all the possible reason for some defect within several minutes,and then make investigations to find out the real reason so as to take right measure.Thus,a more effective and reactive working method will be established.Fourthly,for the aspect of major quality problems,we have made a preliminary research on the anti-pilling performance for seat cover fabrics and crease susceptibility for laminated automotive textiles,which will provide some ideas for the quality improvement work in the future.This paper is a new attempt in the standardized quality management system,and an important part of Total Quality Management for the enterprise.The findings of this paper are of great significance for the company to improve product quality and increase production efficiency,which make it possible for the company to once again become the market leader of seat cover fabrics.
