The purpose of this paper was to prepare carbon/montmorillonite(C/MMT)nanocomposites On the basis of previous work,we chose sucrose and polyvinyl alcohol as the organic carbon source to prepare C/MMT nanocomposites through organic pillared process,high-temperature heat treatment process and air jet mill process.After discussing the organic pillared process of sucrose and polyethylene vinyl alcohol,ultimately,the sucrose with low price,wide variety of sources was fixed as organic carbon sources.The purification of C/MMT nanocomposites was carried out to obtain C/MMT nanocomposites particles with a smaller particle size and relatively larger value of diameter/thickness.X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and elemental analysis were used to characterize structure,composition and morphology of organic/montmorillonite composites and C/MMT composites.Besides,surface area of montmorillonite and C/MMT nanocomposites were measured using the BET method;Rotary viscosity test was taken to explore the influence of C/MMT nanocomposites in the modification of ink.Experimental results show that sucrose can be used as an organic carbon source to achieve the preparation of sucrose/montmorillonite composites.The basal spacing of sucrose/montmorillonite composites is 1.66nm and the basal spacing of corresponding C/MMT composites is 1.32nm.XRD results and SEM results indicate that not all of the C/MMT particles can be pillared into nano-layers through air jet mill process.Purification of C/MMT nano-layers with deionized water dispersion and gradient centrifugation achieved to separate C/MMT particles from big to small,according to particle size,but it is difficult to obtain C/MMT nano-layers with a larger ratio of diameter/thickness.Water/xylene two phase dispersion contributed to the purification of C/MMT nanocomposites and a certain amount of C/MMT nano-layers was obtained.Effect of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide solution was used to purify C/MMT nano-layers,but there was an ion-exchange reaction between cetyl trimethyl ammonium and C/MMT nanocomposite.OP-10 solution purification and SDBS solution purification were both used to purify C/MMT nanocomposites,however,it was also difficult to obtain the C/MMT nanolayers.BET results show that the surface area of carbon/montmorillonite nanocomposite was 53.78m/g,much larger than that of montmorillonite.Rotary viscosity results indicate C/MMT nanocomposites increased the viscosity of the ink system and improve the thixotropic property of ink system.
