The arc welding rapid prototyping technology,using arc as the heat source to melt metal wire,fabricate high density and mechanical properties metal components rapidly.Compared with high energy beam forming,arc welding have good developing prospects due to its simple equipment,low cost,high efficiency and good forming quality,but the surface of the forming parts is rough.Improving the forming quality by improving the process parameters and forming methods shows a great deal of research space.In this paper,the rapid prototyping experiments of aluminum alloy is carried out based on MIG welding with 5356 aluminum alloy wire as the forming material.The influence of different process parameters on the forming quality are studied,and forming methods of the sidewall are explored.Welding current and forming speed are the main factors that influence the forming quality,and proper preheating is helpful to improve the forming quality of the bead.During the single-layer single-bead forming experiments,the bead width and weld reinforcement under different welding current,weding speed and preheating are measured,and the influence of different process parameters on the single-layer forming quality is analyzed.According to the ideal model of rapid forming technology,the experiments on typical thin wall parts with multilayer single-bead are studied.The effects of different welding current,weding speed and cooling time on the macro dimension and surface roughness are analyzed.The microstructure and mechanical properties of the forming parts are tested.On the basis of the ideal lap state model,the influence of different sidewall forming methods on the surface quality of the forming parts are studied by using the results of the single-layer single-bead forming experiments and the multilayer single-bead experiments.The optimal method of sidewall forming is obtained by the forming effect of sample flatness and surface roughness.
