Zircon ceramic materials have high qualities of high temperature resistance,wear resistance and corrosion resistance.But the lower toughness makes the application of zircon ceramic materials restricted.Zircon particles reinforced composite ceramic received wide attention due to lower cost base,abrasion and isotropic characteristics.In this paper,Al2O3/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites,ZrO2/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites and Al2O3/ZrO2/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites were prepared with the traditional preparation of special ceramics by direct sintering,and its sintering properties,phase composition,mechanical properties,microstructure and toughening mechanism were respectively discussed.In addition,the paper focused on the influence of ball-grinding time,pressure,sintering temperature and sintering aids to properties of Al2O3/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites.Archimedes method was used to measure sintering characteristics of ceramic composites.Three-point bending test method and SENB method were used to measure the flexural strength and fracture toughness of ceramic composites.X-ray diffraction(XRD)was used in the qualitative analysis.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)was used to observe the morphology of ceramic composites.The results are as follows:(1)The toughening mechanism of Al2O3/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites were mainly crack deflection and microcrack toughening,the fracture mode was transgranular fracture,and the flexural strength and fracture toughness were 371 MPa and 3.4 MPa-m1/2 respectively.The optimum ball-grinding time was 12h,the optimum pressure was 16MPa,the ceramic composites sintered at 1500℃ for 2h best,and MgO-Y2O3(0.4wt%,0.7 wt%)composite sintering aid was the suitable sintering aids.(2)ZrO2/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites sintered at 1500℃ for 2h followed the preparation of Al2O3/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites.Its toughening mechanism was the mainly phase transformation toughening,and the fracture mode was transgranular fracture,and the flexural strength and fracture toughness were 380MPa and 4.8MPa-m1/2 respectively.(3)Al2O3/ZrO2/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites sintered at 1460℃ for 2h followed the preparation of Al2O3/ZrSiO4 ceramic composites.Its toughening mechanism was mainly crack deflection,microcrack toughening and phase transformation toughening,and the fracture mode was transgranular fracture,and the flexural strength and fracture toughness were 383MPa and 4.4MPa·m1/2 respectively.
