Epoxy resin based low friction materials are widely used in a variety of areas because of their simple preparation process,wide range of raw materials and so on.In this paper,epoxy resin E-51 and curing agent T-31 are selected as adhesive system,graphite and molybdenum disulfide are used as friction reducing phase,meanwhile silica and alumina are chosen as reinforcing phase.One-component epoxy resin based low friction materials are prepared by heating roll method,and the distribution of the fillers on the epoxy resin is observed by scanning electron microscopy.Friction and wear properties,compression properties and Shore’s hardness are tested to obtain the effect of different contents of single component filler on the performance of epoxy resin based low friction materials.Finally,the four-component epoxy resin based low friction materials are designed by orthogonal test method,and the elasticity characteristics are predicted by Mori-Tanaka method to determine the optimal ratios of the four-component epoxy resin based low friction materials.Graphite/epoxy resin based low friction materials and molybdenum disulfide/epoxy ’resin based low friction materials are prepared respectively,the contents of friction reducing phase vary by 10%,20%,30%and 40%.The results show that friction and wear properties of the graphite/epoxy resin based low friction materials rise with the increase of the contents of graphite firstly,and then they decrease.The materials achieve the best friction and wear properties when the content of graphite is 20%.So do molybdenum disulfide/epoxy resin based low friction materials However,the compression properties and Shore’s hardness of these two kinds of epoxy resin based low friction materials are gradually decreased with the increase of the contents of friction reducing phase.The wear surfaces are observed by digital microscope to analyze the wear mechanisms,the results show that adhesive wear is the main way when the contents of friction reducing phase are low.With the increase of the contents of friction reducing phase,fatigue wear becomes the main way,finally it turns into abrasive wear.Both silica/epoxy resin based low friction materials and alumina/epoxy resin based low friction materials are prepared respectively,the contents of reinforcing phase vary by 5%,10%,15%and 20%.The results show that compared with the epoxy resin,compressive properties of the two kinds of epoxy resin based low friction materials are improved,but the trends are slightly different.Compressive properties of the silica/epoxy resin based low friction materials increase first and then decrease with the increase of the contents of silica.When the content of silica is 15%,the material achieves the best compressive properties.And in that case,its compressive strength increased by 19.2%and compressive elastic modulus increased by 15.7%.Compressive properties of the alumina/epoxy resin based low friction materials go up with the increase of alumina content.Meanwhile the compressive strength increased by 5.3%and compressive elastic modulus increased by 10.2%when the content of alumina reaches 20%.The Shore’s hardness of the two kinds of epoxy resin based low friction materials increases with the enhances of the contents of silica and alumirna.Shore’s hardness increases by 0.4%when the content of silica reaches 20%and it increases by 1.3%when the content of alumina reaches 20%.The elastic modulus of the reinforcing phase/epoxy resin based low friction materials is simulated based on the Mori-Tanaka method,and the accuracy of the simulation is verified by comparing its results with the experimental ones.Then the elastic modulus of friction reducing phase is calculated.Nine groups of four-component epoxy resin low friction materials are designed and their elastic modulus is simulated.Then three groups with the highest elastic modulus are selected to test friction and wear properties and Shore hardness.Finally,when the contents of graphite,molybdenum disulfide,silica and alumina are respectively 4%,10%,8%and 5%,the comprehensive performance of the four-component epoxy resin low friction materials is the best.
