In recent years, iron ore resources are being exploited and utilized continuously, the amount of iron tailings increases, which not only causes land resources to be occupied, but also causes serious environmental pollution, threatening people's life and property safety. So through studying the site model and using the spatial analysis function of GIS, we studying site selection for the construction of iron tailings development base. The research can use rich iron tailings resources in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to produce building materials, achieve economic benefits and reduce environmental pollution.Firstly, through multi criteria decision analysis method, we analyze the specific and selective factors of site selection of iron tailings development base and construct a hierarchical analysis model for the weight analysis of the selective factors. Secondly, we build a spatial analysis site model using GIS platform. Using this model, we make the spatial analysis of the specific and selective factors, obtain the potential areas of iron tailings development base which are based on the the specific factors and obtain the potential areas of iron tailings development base which are based on the the selective factors. Through the analysis of the potential areas which are based on different factors, the potential areas for the construction of iron tailings development base are obtained. What's more, the speed and direction of the wind in potential areas for the construction of iron tailings development base are analyzed by drawing the vector map of the wind field. Finally, according to the site model which is base on the improved precision gravity method, the feasible location of the iron tailings development base is determined. The model is realized through the mixed programming based on C#, Matlab and Arc Engine.Through the analysis, we determine the feasible location of the iron tailings development base. And the feasible location is more scientific and reasonable by verificating. It is proved that the method is feasible and effective, can provide reference for the future planning and can provide effective support for the actual site selection.
