Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore the essence of Mix and Match, and focus on the analysis of material mix to sum up the method and the procedure of material Mix and Match in furniture design.In order to make furniture design jump out of the traditional wooden thinking and provide more creative expression method and ideas.First, the history of the development of Mix and Match is sorted out to have a deeper understanding of the essence and connotation of the mix. Then, the actual application of material mix design is analyzed to have a clear understanding of the purpose of material mix. On the basis of thorough analysis of the wood and other material properties, the entry points for the furniture material mix are found. Starting from the entry points, the furniture design by wood as the main material mix design method is summarized. Finally, the thesis summarize the furniture material mix design procedure and carry a demonstration design practice under the guidance of the procedure to verify the theoretical correctness and operability of it.The different stages of the research use the literature research method, survey method, analogy analysis method, inductive method, cross disciplinary research, computer simulation and other methods. The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)The essence of Mix and Match is a kind of reverse thinking. It breaks history and the routine in order to creat new forms of beauty under the realization of function and meeting the needs of customers.It reflects the design of personality, emotion and cultural connotations.(2) Furniture material mix cannot entirely fanciful and need to consider a combination factors of people, the environment, and the function, structure and morphology of furniture.(3) Furniture material mix selection should be based on the characteristics of each material, balancing the principle of rationality and sensibility.
