The Container is widely used as a means of transport.In the process of transporting,the goods contact with internal painting directly,so the painting need to have good corrosion resistance.Three-coating system including the zinc rich epoxy primer is frequently used as internal painting of the container to carry cargos of little corrosion.In this work,the failure mechanism of sulfur-load container's internal painting is studied.After compared with several coatings,polymer X has been chosen to improve its wear resistance for its excellent corrosion resistance.When the container is used to transport the granular sulfur,the corrosion in the internal painting occurs after a period of time.Some areas are so badly damaged that the container has been penetrated.Research shows that the corrosion mechanism is the sulfide oxidation and hydrolysis of ferric ions.The sulfur transportation can wear the ground.It is the corrosion and abrasion that cause the premature failure of internal painting.A coating with excellent corrosion and wear resistance should be synthesized.At the same time,the coating should meet the requirements of convenient construction and economy.Several coatings have been provided to resist the negative influence of sulfur in the present study.The wear and corrosion properties of the selected coatings have been measured.It has been found that Polymer X have excellent corrosion resistance and poor wear resistance.Polyurethane,toughening agent,SiO2 and graphite have been added into polymer X to improve its wear resistance from the premise that the corrosion resistance changed as less as possible.Wear experiments show that the wear resistance could be improved only when graphite is added into polymer X.Wearing surfaces show the morphologies are smooth and flat.This means that the problem of coating adhesion has been solved.However the sulfuric acid corrosion resistance of coatings has degraded slightly.IR results showed that the graphite and polymer X is a kind of mechanical mixture,and no chemical reaction could be observed.So pores are formed in coatings result from the addition of graphite,which would decrease the corrosion resistance of coatings.Graphic-polymer X coating is a promising candidate for the corrosion and wear protection of sulfur loaded container.
