Plate tower is an important equipment in the process of industrial separation,and the tower plate as the core component of the plate tower plays an important role in the process.The development of a new type of tray and the research on the performance of the tray have important practical value.In this paper,a new type of floating valve tray is developed,which is named curved surface directed valve tray.and the hydraulic characters and mass transfer performance were studied.The hydraulic research includes the tray pressure drop,liquid entrainments rate and leakage rates,which are discussed about the effect with the change of plate spacing,weir height,liquid flow,valve hole kinetic energy factor in the rectangular tower with air-water system.Mass transfer performance experiment with air-water-CO2 system has been made to determine the efficiency of the plate.what's more,mathematic correlation is made about the tray pressure drop,liquid entrainment rate and leakage hole speed,which can provide basic data for industrial application and tray research.The experimental results show that the curved surface directed valve tray has excellent hydraulic characters and mass transfer performance.it has the characteristic of elastic operation?strong processing ability and high plate efficiency.The towers of n-butane and isobutane in isooctane production process were simulated and calculated by Aspen Plus software.Based on the hydraulic data and mass transfer experimental data of the tray,design of the isobutane tower has been made.The results show that the design can ensure the normal industrial production within the operating range.
