Design & Study On Preparation And Performance Of High Building And Quick Drying Alkyd Paint

High-build coatings,now in many fields,are used as the upgrading products of the traditional solvent based coatings,for its relatively superior properties and low VOC content.It is difficult for alkyd paint to realize a good balance between high-build process and its properties only through a single method.So this paper intends to synthesize a kind of relatively high solid alkyd resin and to develop high-build alkyd coat with low VOC and high performance,through methods of controlling its molecular weight,adjusting the resin oil,using active fillers and environmentally friendly catalyst.Firstly,the drying mechanism of alkyd resin was studied and high solid alkyd resin was prepared through chemical modification.And the influence of relative molecular weight,oil length and reaction temperature on drying property and the film was studied,the synthetic technology of alkyd resin was determined.The result shows: synthetic alkyd resin completely conforms to our design goals by further IR spectra analyzing,and its solid content reached to 75% by testing,which indicated that the resin can be used to produce high performance coatings with high solid content,drying fast performance and good stability.Secondly,this paper discussed the influence of different fillers on alkyd coating and the commonly used fillers were analyzed.The result shows: active calcium carbonate with surface treatment,has particle size less than 10 micron and oil absorption less than 16,can be used as the main filler for its better dispersion,lower oil absorption and more filling volume in high solid alkyd coat.Thirdly,by using our prepared alkyd resin,the effect of the commonly used dryers such as organo-lead,organo-cobalt and environment friendly agent were parallel tested,and as a result a lead-free dryer with good drying effect was screen out.Finally,the formulation of the anticorrosive alkyd paint was studied,and the influence of pigment volume concentration(PVC)on coating film performance,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance was discussed.Through salt spray test(SST)and adhesion test,the coating formulation was confirmed and it can prevent the onshore metal to be corroded.
