Based on oxygen luminescence quenching,pressure sensitive paint(PSP)composed of luminescence probes and polymer matrix is a kind of functional material,which has been successfully developed in the 1980 s for aerodynamics,fluid mechanics and transition experiments as a kind of non-contact optical pressure measurement method.For complex aerodynamic flow field,the PSP technology provides a kind of quantitative measurement method with global visual surface pressure.In addition,it also provides a lot of information for flow field structure characterization.Three kinds of oxygen pressure response polymers,(1-pyrene)methyl methacrylate homopolymer(PyMMA),(1-pyrene)methyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate(PyMMA-co-MMA)and(1-pyrene)methyl methacrylate-co-butyl methacrylate(PyMMA-co-BMA),were synthesized by the method of atom transfer radical polymerization.Through the investigations in the film structure and the oxygen quenching properties for fluorescence emission,the results showed that in THF solution,PyMMA mainly emitted its monomer fluorescence emission,while PyMMA-co-MMA and PyMMA-co-BMA mainly emitted the excimer fluorescence emission.In addition,PyMMA showed higher oxygen sensitivity compared to that in solid film.The luminescence probes of a ruthenium complex was mixed within silicone-gel contained various polymer,such as ethyl cellulose(EC),polyethylene oxide(PEO)and polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA),respectively,and then the oxygen quenching behaviors of the luminescence emissions for the PSPs were quantitatively observed by using the fluorescence spectroscopy excited at 457 nm with various oxygen concentration from 0% to 100%.It is found that the PSP composed with the polymer gels showed higher oxygen sensitivity compared to that in bulk polymers due to the higher specific surface area and the enrichment of the probe molecules on the surface,which are favorable to the oxygen luminescence quenching.In addition,the polymer with higher oxygen permeability showed higher oxygen sensitivity.Based on the research of laser confocal fluorescence microscopy(LCFM)images,it is found that the dispersion of the luminescence probes in EC sol-gel polymer is the most uniform,followed by that in PEO and PMMA finally.The results obtained from LCFM are identified with that from the experiments of the oxygen luminescence quenchingSeveral PSPs prepared in this work have been successfully used to measure the surface dynamic pressure distributions for some aerodynamic models in the hypersonic wind tunnel and transonic wind tunnel.The continuous pressure distribution images on the model surface were obtained and analyzed,and the measured data corresponded very well with that by using traditional pressure method,therefore,all of the results indicated that the PSPs in this work have been basically achieved the engineering application level,and showed certain application value.
