Municipal sewage and sludge is the inevitable pollution source of environment in the process of urban development. In the face of the production of city sewage and sludge with a rapid growth trend, the country, all levels of government and urban residents have paid more and more attention on the urban environment question. At present, the systematic study on the composition, treatment process, and recycling utilization of municipal sewage and sludge have become a hot research field in resources and environment science.This study took the Xuensu sewage treatment plant in Houma city of Shanxi province as the research object and the investigation, data collection, and data processing and analysis as method, the production and treated quantity of sewage and sludge were statistically analyzed from 2010 to 2014 in Houma city. Some of important components of city sewage (COD, BOD, SS, AD, TN, and TP) and sludge (N, P, K, organic matter, and heavy metals) were measured by chemical method. The municipal sewage processing amounts and processing quality of Xunsu sewage treatment plant was analyzed and the resource-oriented utilization potential of sewage and sludge was analyzed in Houma city. The results are showed as follows:1. The average annual production of municipal sewage was 949 m3 and generally increased from 2010 to 2014 in Houma city of Shanxi province. Tt will increase further in the future.2. The average annual treatment quantity of sewage was 576 m3 from 2014 to 2010 in Houma city. It was over the treatment capacity of Xunsu sewage treatment plant and was unable to complete the task of Houma city sewage. The average annual quantity of municipal sludge produced in the sewage treatment process was 438.3t (dry basis) from 2010 to 2014 in Houma city.3. The concentrations of COD, BOD, SS, NH4+-N, TN, and TP were 37.81 mg/L-41.71 mg/L, 12.37 mg/L-1.448 mg/L,13.4 mg/L-14.2 mg/L,6.98 mg/L-9.20 mg/L,15.8 mg/L-17.7 mg/L, and 0.85 mg/L-0.96 mg/L respectively in the sewage treated by Xuensu sewage treatment plant and which all reached the standard B of the national municipal sewage discharge and also conformed to the national farmland irrigation water quality standard (GB5084-2005). The contents of heavy metals copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, chromium, arsenic, and mercury were 151.35 mg/kg,560.61 mg,39.11 mg/kg, 0.145 mg/kg,5.86 mg/kg,10.90 mg/kg, and 0.439 mg/kg respectively in the sludge produced by the Xuensu sewage treatment plant and which were all in the pollutant concentration limit of agricultural sludge quantity of the town sewage treatment sludge disposal (CJ/T 309-2009). The contents of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic matter were 2.09%,1.21%,0.160%, and 38.98% respectively in the sludge. Therefore, reasonable utilization of sewage and sewage in the field of agriculture is important for reducing the cost of agricultural investment, saving water resource of the Houma City, and promoting the city's economic and social sustainable development further.
