Based on the process features of electromagnetic stirring system illustrated the necessity of researching fault diagnosis technology for electromagnetic stirring system. According to the structure and function of electromagnetic stirring system, according to different work stages of electromagnetic stirring system the failure mode of electromagnetic stirring system and its consequences were analyzed, and the common fault features of each subsystem and its components unit, the cause of the problem and treatment measures were summarized.The principle to establish fault tree of electromagnetic stirring system was summarized, based on which the fault tree of each failure mode of electromagnetic stirring system was established and qualitatively analyzed. The minimum cut set and minimum path set was given.According to the purpose and requirements of fault diagnosis for electromagnetic stirring system based on fault tree analysis researched how the basic facts are stored in the PLC and the representation method, designed the rules of programming of the fault pattern recognition and fault isolation. The fault monitoring system of electromagnetic stirring was built,based on application of existing hardware and software,to improve the efficiency of fault diagnosing of the electromagnetic stirring and the accuracy of diagnosing with electromagnetic stirring system fault model automatic identifying and fault monitoring.Compared to expert system of fault diagnosis, the disadvantages of the traditional fault diagnosis program was analyzed. According to the fault tree analysis and expert system, studying the fault diagnosis expert system based on production rule knowledge acquisition method and giving the rules how knowledge transform from fault tree, the knowledge of fault diagnosis expert system was obtained from the fault tree. Based on the analysis of reasoning control strategy of the fault diagnosis expert system, forward and backward combined reasoning was selected as the reasoning control strategy of the fault diagnosis expert system for electromagnetic stirring system, which laid a foundation of the development of fault diagnosis expert system for electromagnetic stirring system.
