The computer aided process planning which considers knowledge-engineering as the core has become the mainstream in recent years. The optimization technology for sheet metal bending parts develops very quickly on this background. Based on the previous research, sheet metal bending sequence and its algorithm are mainly discussed and deeply researched in the thesis.Firstly, this paper treats sheet metal bending parts as the research object and processes the problem of sheet metal bending sequence as a search procedure in a solving search tree space. A model is established to solve the bending sequence problem.Setting the sheet metal part in the complete bending state as the starting point, then conducting the reverse reasoning through expanding the part gradually. Meanwhile, the conventional process experience is extracted as the heuristic knowledge to improve the search efficiency and to get the optimal solution with the shortest part-handing time through the process rules created and the interference check control reasoning and back tracking.This paper also researches to obtain the bend sequence of sheet metal components through typical cases. Using object-oriented technology to represent the cases and creating a process knowledge database of cases. Using case-based reasoning (CBR) technology to obtain the bending process of the target part. This method can fully utilize the knowledge of bending process, so as to improve the utilization of knowledge and machining efficiency of bending parts.The convenient, real-time, and visual manipulating of the bending mold design are deeply studied. Using GDI+ to develop a CAD system for the design of bending mold, and integrating it into the bending CNC system. Through the system the mold information library can be interoperated, and bending mold editing functions also can be realized;A sheet metal bending process optimization system was developed by the author based on the above algorithm. The system was built on the graphics components of ACIS and HOOPS, using object-oriented language C++ in Windows XP and Visual Stdio.Net environment.
