| Wire cut EDM(WEDM) is widely applied in mold industry, complexproducts, special material processing and other fields of industries due to its high precise dimension, high utilization of material and high efficiency. With the dual effects of instantaneous discharging temperature and rapid cooling, the damaged layer will be formed on the top of the base material during the wire cutting.Regarding the WEDM is the final process step or nearby for the certain products, the quality of final products will be reducedbecause of the damaged layer. Therefore, the study of the damaged layer by WEDM has very high significance to increase the process quality and process efficiency of this processing technology. The pulse duration, pulse gap ratio, peak current and wire speed as four main process parameters in the WEDM are studied to observe the thickness of the damaged layer in the martensitic stainless steel. The main content and conclusion are:1) The experimental result of each process parameters alternation indicates that the pulse duration and peak current are the main factors for forming the damaged layeramongthe main process parameters of WEDM. By comparison, the influence from pulse gap ratio and wire speed is much less.2) Thefurther experimentalresultby means of orthogonal test indicates that the priority of the four parameters to the damaged layer is pulse duration, peak current, wire speed and pulse gap ratio. Moreover, the interaction is existed between pulse duration and peak current to reinforce the forming of damaged layer. |
