The most common extrusion equipment in the rubber extrusion industry currently is the pin barrel cold feed rubber extruder, of which the temperature control system has great importance to the quality and yield of extrusion product. In order to optimize temperature control system of pin barrel, simulation and experimental methods were applied to analyze the properties of the system, and improvement plan for its shortcoming was put forward and verified. A temperature control program based on Finite Element Method was written to get a deep understanding about the temperature control process. Specific contents are as follows:1 Through the redevelopment of Fluent, a method by which PID algorithm was integrated into numerical simulation of temperature distribution was carried out to realize the dynamic simulation of temperature control. The temperature control process of a mixer was simulated by the method, and corresponding experiments were done through the PLC control platform. By comparing the simulation and experimental results, one can see that the simulation and experimental results were in a high degree of agreement, indicating the correctness of the method.2 A series of temperature control experiments on pin barrel were carried out through the PLC platform to analyze properties of the system and the influences of PID parameters on the control process. And the fuzzy PID control algorithm was applied into the temperature control system, which led to a fine control effect. The current system used the temperature of returned water to represent the barrel temperature, which led to a large deviation between the feedback temperature and actual temperature. For this situation, a program that the temperature of the interface of the barrel was measured by a sensor to represent the barrel temperature was proposed.3 The temperature control process of rubber pin barrel under normal operation was simulated dynamically by numerical simulation method. The influences of PID parameters on the control process and the working time of cooling system were analyzed. And the temperature control effects of two barrels with different temperature control flow channels under the same PID parameters were compered.4 A temperature control program package based on Finite Element Method was used to simulate heating process of a rectangular model with and without PID control. And the same simulation in Fluent was carried out. From the simulation results, it was obvious that the temperature curves of different programs basically coincided, which verified the correctness of the FEM program package. The program package can lead to a deep understanding of the temperature control process.
