Electrolyzer is the core of energy consuming equipment in alkali. In this paper, we study the technical reconstruction of the ionic membrane electrolyzer in electrolytic workshop of chlorine-alkali factory in Xinjiang Huatai.(1) We have analyzed the power-consumption data before technical reconstruction, and found we can improve the efficiency of electrolyzer by optimizing some conditions, such as the concentration of caustic soda; fluid circulation, pH, concentration of anode; temperature; impurities of brine; and cell voltage. However, changing the membrane polar distance is an effective way to reduce the power consumption.(2) The optimal membrane polar distance is established by comparing the performance of electrolyzer from different manufacturers. The cell voltage and power consumption is significantly reduced after changing the membrane polar distance. Therefore, the whole membrane polar distance is changed.(3) We use the nickel material instead of stainless or carbon steel material in the equipment, pipeline and plate of cathode system; increase a set of resin tower equipment; update and use the data control information system; strengthen the monitoring and management of production data on the changed membrane polar distance of electrolyzer.(4) Comparing the data before and after reforming technique, we haved increased alkali production, reduced the cell voltage, and lowered the power consumption.
