As a result of the dual constraints of recent international economic situation and domestic steel policies, domestic iron and steel corporations are facing unprecedented pressure to survive. It is a common choice to sustain low-cost production and reduce expense and energy consumption for their survival.Moreover, Ironmaking cost typically accounts for 70% in the entire process.Consequently, the blast furnace operation with low cost and prolonging the service life are essential for each ones. Benefits from longevity of blast furnace can be not merely conservation of expenditure caused by overhaul but also reduction of economic loss.Recently, with improvement of fuel conditions and the application of advanced technology such as copper stave, closed loop soft water circulation cooling system,high performance refractory materials and Comprehensive data monitoring, the service life of some domestic BF has reached at least 15 years. However, it is impossible to avoid these accidents, which has become the bottleneck of improving the BF service life.In such a century-long history of production, the problems restricting the life of BF have been settled by tracking the progress of technologies in all respects. But,hearth erosion is still a limiting element of its life. The lives of AnSteel three 3200m3 BF as same as AnLing did not meet the designed. So, we will take a heavy burden and embark on a long road to improve BF service life according to shortcomings and deficiencies existing in design, construction, daily operation and longevity management.The mechanism of hearth erosion and the causes leading to burning-through accident are introduced, and then their solving methods are analyzed in this paper.The situations of the blast furnaces which occurs iron leakage in damping down time,burning-through accident in operation and hearth erosion are illustrated, in order to conduct some effective preventive methods, measures for controlling erosion, and solutions.
