This paper studied PP oil absorption materials prepared by cold plasma induced grafting modification.Firstly,a kind of modified melt-blown PP non woven(PP-g-BMA)was made through grafting polymerization of BMA initiated by cold plasma.The structure of the PP surface was representation by FT-IR analysis,SEM and EDS.It was conformed that BMA was grafted onto the polymer surface.The influence of cold plasma modified condition to the grafting ratio was analyzed such as power,pressure and time.The optimum conditions was obtained through single-factor analysis: time180 s,pressure30 Pa and power 40 W.The best liquid grafting reacting condition was also investigated.The results showed that the monomer mass fraction was 15%,the temperature was 70? and the time was 2h.The grafting rate of PP can reach maximum in isopropyl alcohol solvent reaction system.The saturated oil absorption rate and grafting rate of modified PP materials had been significantly improved compared with original PP materials.The results showed that the best grafting ratio was 7.2%.The saturated adsorption of the PP-g-BMA to toluene was 13.8 g/g.Secondly,the influence of adsorption conditions to the oil absorption rate was analysed such as the grafted rate of modified polypropylene,temperature,time,salt of aqueous solution and p H of water solution.The optimum adsorption conditions was obtained through orthogonal experiment: the grafted rate was 13.4%,the temperature was 20 ? and the adsorption time was 7 s,the p H of system was 9.The retention performance and re-usability performance of modified PP oil-absorption materials were tested.The results showed that the grafting modified PP material has excellent retention performance and re-usability performance.And the strength performance test showed that the fabric strength was not significantly reduce.The proposed principle for the trend was“like dissolves like”:polar organic maximizes its interactions with other polar substances but does not dissolve in non-polar substances due to the electric between polarity molecules.Therefore,the absorption capacity of grafted PP forpolar organic increased with the increasing of monomer polar.While for smaller polar or non-polar organic,the absorption capacity of grafted PP was higher when the monomer polar was smaller.The PP sample with a monomer ratio of 1:1(BMA/LMA)exhibited a moderate absorption capacity for both polar and non-polar insoluble organic chemicals compared to that using other monomer ratio system.
