To obtain a high degree of regularity 2-vinyl pyridine polymer, we synthesized and characterised nine unreported rare earth metal complexes. On the basis of the above, We have used them as catalysts for the polymerization of 2-vinyl pyridine.1.The four [OOOO]-type tetradentate ligands were obtained by NBS bromination, benzyl protecting, Suzuki coupling and hydrogenation reduction. These complexes were established by1H NMR.2. Under an argon atmosphere the target products were prepared by reacting these ligands with with metal (lutetium, dysprosium and holmium) alkyl compound. The catalyst were characterized by1H NMR,13C NMR.3.The series of complexes had activity for the polymerizations of 2-vinylpyridine (2VP), which could get the maximum molecular weight Mn=53.6 X 104g/mol. The catalyst 8 can catalyze the polymerization of a monomer of 200 equivalent in 7min. The catalysts 2 and 3 had highly activity for the polymerizations of 2-vinyl pyridine(2VP), which could get isotactic P2VP ([mm=0.91,0.99]).
