In recent years,The sludge treatment has become a common environmental problems with large numbers of sludge are produced during the disposal of wastewater. In this paper, a kind of adsorbent was prepared from sewage sludge by chemical activation and applied in the sorption of Dimethyl phthalate(DMP).In order to analyze the raw sludge and sludge-based adsorbent systematically, this study characterized the physical and chemical properties of them by N2 adsorption, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Fourier transform infrared red(FT-IR) spectroscopy, Boehm titrations, X-ray diffraction(XRD), Thermogravimetric analyzer. The adsorption behavior of DMP on the sludge-based adsorbent was studied in batch reactors by investigating a range of variables including adsorbent dosage, p H, adsorption time and DMP concentration. When the adsorbent dosage, p H, adsorption time and DMP concentration were 4 g/L, 6, 2h and 1000 mg/L respectively, the removal rate of DMP was more than 90%. The kinetics models and adsorption equilibrium isotherms of DMP adsorption on the SBA were also investigated. Experimental data were liner fitted by the pseudo second order kinetic model and Freundlich mode well. Additionally, this study also analyzed DMP adsorption process from the π-electron interactions, electrostatic interactions and H-bonding interactions. The regeneration of sludge-based adsorbent studied in batch reactors by investigating a range of variables including the contact time and Na OH concentration. When the contact time and Na OH concentration were 2h and 1 mol/L respectively, the mass of DMP desorption was more than 230 mg/g. The reuse of sludge-based adsorbent indicated DMP removal rate on regenerative adsorbent was more than 80% after been used 7 times. Finally, the contents of several heavy metals in sludge and sludge-based adsorbent as well as their leaching solution had indicaed that the sludge-based adsorbent used in wastewater treatment would be safe and feasible.
