Environmental deterioration and climate change, caused by the development of economy and society,have become a “global response” problem. And now we have reached a consensus that we should advocate ecological idea and realize sustainable development. On the one hand, community is the important place for people's daily life., the environmental quality directly relates to the standard of people's life. On the other hand, the real estate industry as one of the crucial engine of economic development, is closely related to community planning and construction. And how to scientifically lead it is increasingly getting attention. The ecological concept is applied to the community in the planning construction and management, reducing the effect on nature, in the precondition of satisfying the people's basic living needs, to reduce carbon emissions and the consumption of non-renewable energy is one of the important measure to cope with environmental problems. The research of eco-community at current domestic concentrates more on the application of ecological technology and the establishment of evaluation system. But lacks of understanding about the society with Chinese characteristics and economic system, and the primary stage of socialism reality. The problems and causes existing in the practice process which lacks deep analysis, lead to the thorough theoretical research and the drifting-away social practice.This thesis uses relevant discipline theory of sociology, ecology, urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture with the historical development period as the axis, the east of the western residential culture as the background, and expounds the historical evolution of eco-community values. This paper analyzes the successful case of eco-community at home and abroad. And on this basis, it summarizes the connotation of eco-community. Finally, it aimly propose the direction for future study of implementation strategy and eco-community, mainly from the perspective of the economic and social search important problem and reason existing in the construction of eco-community planning in our country.Research shows, except the widespread use of ecological technology, the economic and cultural factors play important roles in the basic meaning of eco-community. Putting the equity principle into use and utilizing land resources intensively is one of the indispensable parts of eco-community. The overseas cares of eco-community set important examples to the popularization and utilization of ecological technology and development of ecology awareness. Due to the main existing problems in planning and construction of eco-community in China. Only by taking targeted measures on the mechanism of market, administration, law and society, cam we promote the planning, construction and management, drive the transformation of research outcome and push the theory of eco-community forward. Consequently, the scientific development and sustainable development would come true.
