Coal tar pitch is the distillation residue of coal tar after extraction.It has many advantages such as,high carbon content,low melting point,good liquidity and low price.It has been used in graphite electrodes,carbon materials products,C/C composites matrix precursors and so on.In the process of using CTP,it will release toxic or carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)which could cause damages in human bodies and environment.Therefore,it is an urgent task to find an effective way to reduce carcinogenic of CTP.This experiment adopts polyethylene glycol(PEG)800,divinyl benzene(DVB)and polystyrene(PS)modified CTP with different ratios and catalysts,laid point on analyzing the removal effects of BaP.The results showed that three kinds of modifier compounds have the best effect that decrement of BaP reach 44.44% and it rise to56.89% adding acid catalyst.And the content of BaP in CTP down to 0.97%.Then the CTP modified by phenolic resin(PF)were carbonized at different temperature.The products were characterized by fourier transform infra-red(FT-IR),scanning electron microscope(SEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The results showed that pyrolytic carbon of modified CTP have formed lamella and banded structure lamella which were easier to be formed than parent CTP.Finally,the modified CTP was prepared for low-carbon magnesia carbon brick as carbon source.The results showed that magnesium carbon brick has the optimal performances which compressive strength reach 48.76 MPa with 1%wt of modified CTP.
