Mine ventilation system is an important part of mine production, ensuring the efficient and reliable operation is a key to reduce the accident rate and improve economic benefit. Therefore, to be capable to analyze continuously the causes of low reliability of ventilation system is of great significance. Based on this, the article launches the research on failure mode of mine ventilation system. Mainly based on the theory of the reliability engineering, mathematical statistics and the determination of the types of failure distribution,the article studies on the failure mechanism of ventilation system components (ventilation building, mine roadway, ventilation power),for most of the ventilation system components, failure rate changes fit bathtub curve. The variation can be divided into early failure period, random failure period and loss failure period; for a few ventilation system components, failure rate conforms to the change rule of horizontal line; and element failure modes, namely the curve of the performance of ventilation system element changing continuously over time; to determine the component failure distribution types, namely, normal distribution and uniform distribution; to define its failure probability function. From the two aspects of air volume and air quality, defines the function to judge ventilation function failure. Through the concrete example, the inner relation between the ventilation system components and ventilation function in failure mode is determined. Research shows that, during the repair period, a single component failure probability is certain, ventilation function is not failure; on the contrary, a plurality of element parallel exist with some probability, ventilation function can be failure.
