With coal production increasing, changes in the sales market and the adjustment of production processes such as mining and washing in recent years, the inventory of waste materials as coal slurry is increasing. The highest one has been 42m. The stacking height of slime is higher gradually which restricts the normal production of coal washing plant. As the stacking height increasing, excavation at the foot of pile makes its stability lower. It has been caused several coal slurry outburst accidents. Studying on the reasonable parameters of coal slurry reactor is imminent.The coal slurry reactor outburst after excavating at its foot is a question of unsaturated slope nonlinear mechanics problem. Based on fully consult and analysis the study result for unsaturated slope stability at home and abroad, applying theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field observation to study on sliding process. Combining with coal slurry reactor from the Anjialing second coal preparation plant, obtaining physical and mechanical parameters of coal slurry from laboratory tests provide reliable parameters for numerical simulation. Obtaining coal slurry reactor relationship curve between moisture content and height through numerical solution of unsaturated coal slurry water motion equation establish the numerical model. Using FLAC3D to simulate coal slurry reactors sliding process with different heights when excavation at the foot of slope. Obtaining coal slurry reactors sliding process and determining the failure mechanism is that coal slurry reactors of different moisture content after excavation under unbalance forces will appear solid deformation, plastic deformation and viscous fluid flow. The stacking height is the most important control parameter for coal slurry stability. Higher the coal slurry pile is, larger the sliding volume is, greater the damage is. The final reasonable stacking height is below 12m. It is important to eliminate coal slurry reactor potential security risks and to ensure the safety of people's life and property.
