In the production of the coal mine environment, which need to be monitored, but, the coal mine has low intensity of illumination, full of dust and more bad environmental problems. The poor underground image quality is caused by these bad impacts. In order to solve the above problems, improve the efficiency of the coal mine production safety and production work, image enhancement processing is necessary.In recent years, Retinex image enhancement algorithm has become a hotspot of research on digital image enhancement technology, among them, the multi-scale Retinex enhancement algorithm (MSR) is a certain level of borehole image enhancement in low visibility, but there is insufficient. for the problem, we found a resolution, an application of multi-scale Retinex enhancement algorithm, enhance the image of low visibility. And based on this, advances an improved image enhancement algorithm, multi-scale Retinex based on S curve. The S curve function has such characteristics, the area of its domain and the range is consistent, the inflection point is asymmetric. The experimental results show that using the improved algorithm, the image enhancement for the coal mine, enhanced the target image, and at the same time, background noise has been suppressed, improve the quality and the contrast of the original image. And get the best visual effects of the target zone.
