Titanium and titanium carbide derived carbon (TCDC) were successfully synthesized by electrolysis of TiC powder in molten salt. The important experimental parameters for preparing TCDC by molten salt electrolysis was studied such as molding pressure, sintering temperature, and electrolysis temperature and voltage. The composition, morphology and structure of titanium and TCDC were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), Raman Spectroscopy(Raman), transmission electron microscope (TEM). The TCDC was assembled in supercapacitors and its electrochemical properties was studied by Cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance and charge-discharge tests. The optimized experimental conditions were obtained, as followed:the TiC anode tablets pressed at 20MPa and sintered at 950? for 4 hours showed the best electrochemical performance. The equimolar KCl-NaCl molten salt was used as the electrolyte. Electrolysis was performed at 800? and the voltage of 1.3 V(vs.Mo).The titanium and TCDC were characterized by XRD, SEM, Raman and TEM. The results showed that the anode product was titanium which was flocculent-like according to SEM. And the impurity of titanium dioxide is in the anode products. TCDC were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and Raman. It showed that TCDC was made up of graphite carbon and amorphous carbon. The TCDC showed excellent super-capacitive property. Especially, the TCDC-10 presented the high capacity of 122.5 F/g at the current density of 3 mA/cm2. The capacitance of TCDC-10 remained 85% after 1000 times of charging and discharging. It showed superior capacitance performance.
