The titanium sponge produced by Kroll is a metal lump, it has great size and needs to be crushed into particles before using in subsequent production. Domestic titanium sponge mechanical crushing process is lagging behind, the output rate of first quality ware is only 40 percent. The mechanical crushing process used by Jinda company resulting in poor quality of titanium sponge particles after crushing. In order to improve the mechanical crushing problems of Jinda titanium sponge lump, in this paper, in support of Liaoning Province Dr. Scientific Research Foundation project, the research project is located in the study of titanium sponge mechanical crushing process.This paper observe the micro structure of MHT-90 grade sponge titanium by means of experimental equipments, conducts the compression experiment, in order to study the mechanical properties of titanium sponge compression; based on "volume theory" broken-power theory to study the mechanical crushing model of titanium sponge, simulates the crushing process by analysis software, designs data acquisition system and the overall experimental device of titanium sponge shearing crushing experiment, conducts crushing experiment, compares the experimental results with the numerical results, and studies crushing force and temperature issues of crushing process.Compression test results show that:Titanium sponge material is toughness, alone by a simple squeezing action is not easy to crush it, as the porosity increases, the titanium sponge compressive strength decreases. Shearing crushing experimental datum and simulation results comparison shows:the titanium sponge mechanical crushing model established in this paper is fully applicable to the study of titanium sponge crushing process. And by the further research in the shearing crushing experiment, this paper gets that:in the crushing process, as crushing cutting depth increases, the crushing force and temperature of crushed tooth increase; under the same crushing cutting depth condition, the size of crushing force has nothing to do with cutting speed, but with the increase in cutting speed, titanium sponge crushing process temperature increases faster; under the same condition of cutting speed and crushing cutting depth, the crushing force of triangular tooth is significantly smaller than the other two teeth, and the temperature rise of triangular tooth and pyramid-shaped tooth is smaller.
