Short electric arc processing technology is a new type of special electrical processing technology rising in recent years, has offered cost-effective solution to a variety of new special hardness, high wear resistance, especially brittle specialty materials processing problem targeted. Its high processing efficiency and low cost is deeply Recognized in the industry.The advantage of short electric arc processing technology is its single pulse energy, and therefore the material removal rate is high, and that is why short electric arc processing has a not very good surface quality and more tool electrode wear than other processing methods.The characteristics of a short arc technology, processing principles and problems existed, as well as structure of HNC-8 system were properly introduced and explained in this paper, and the overall project was designed based on the actual needs. Key functional modules hardware devices of the short-arc Special CNC system such as basic motion control module, cathode diameter detection device, water-gas nozzles were analyzed and the final plan was determined. The the effect of the cathode electrode wear took on normal processing was described, the importance of its real-time processing of compensation was analyzed; The possibility of a cathode electrode wear compensation were analyzed, and the final plan was determined after comprehensive comparison; An effective compensation program was devised and the programming work was completed; A experiment was took to explore the factors of cathode tool electrode wear with the existing conditions. Short-arc Special CNC system was developed, short intelligent response mechanisms was completed and the task that generating G code automatically and processing automatically was achieved; And data sampling oscilloscope, large data storage and management module were completed for the future of short-arc technology more in-depth study. So far, in addition to the automatic processing of automatic compensation, other features have been preliminarily tested to verify, and the desired objectives were achieved.
