Cardanol is a unique natural source for unsaturated long-chain phenols.Obtained as a byproduct of the cashew industry. This renewable material has wide applications in the form of industrial production.The main applications of cardanol are used as chemical raw materials replacing oil. It is mainly used in phenolic resin and epoxy resin, but the report on the preparation and the applications of surfactants is rarely reported. In this paper, we used cardanol as raw material to synthetize nonionicsurfactants and investigate the role in seed precipitation process of sodium aluminate solution.First of all, the cashew phenol was taken as original materials, controlled the temperature between 140~145℃ and the pressure of 2×105~3×105Pa, the cardanol polyoxyethylene ether 6 (UCPE-6) can be synthesized by the ethylene oxide addition reaction. Then at room temperature by the catalyst of Raney nickel to catalytise hydrogenation under atmospheric pressure, obtained the saturated products (HCPE-6). The structures of the final products were demonstrated by FT-IR, and 1H-NMR. The results showed that the synthesized products were the desired products.Secondly, the experiment is investigated in the process of hydrogen consumption to the change of time and temperature for hydrogenation rate, the influence of curve fitting is studied by using matlab. In addition, through the various temperatures hydrogenation degree is determined by iodine value method. Experimental results show that the optimum temperature of the hydrogenation is 30℃.The gap of hydrogen consumption between iodine value methods and actual is not more than 3%.Thirdly, the HLB, critical micelle concentration, cloud point, solubility, and softening point about all the products were measured. In contrast with unsaturated products, the results of the saturated structure products indicated that:the HLB increased, the critical micelle concentration decreased, cloud point increased, and the softening point increased.Finally, emulsion type series crystallization auxiliary is prepared using HCPE-6 as the the main raw material, and sodium aluminate solution of Guangxi Branch of China Aluminum as the research object.Through the experiment, RY-3 is selected the best crystallization auxiliary. Then, the comparison experiment between RY-3 and foreign Nalco is studied, as the results showed us, RY-3 are superior to Nalco in both the particle size and intensity, what more, the effect on decomposition rate between them is similar.As the experiment showed us, HCPE-6 possesses the advantages of simple synthetic process, low cost. Furthermore, RY-3 is better than foreign Nalco in improving particle size and intensity. It will have a good prospect of industrial promotion.
