Vibrating electrode ESR A3 steel test brought a series of melting rate data under different vibration parameters, results showed that in the premise of same current and voltage, electrode vibration method could improve the melting rate 20% to 30%.Vibrating could increase the heat exchange between electrode and slag pool, power function relation exists between heat transfer coefficients and vibrating parameters. When vibrating in horizontal direction, there is a bigger index in the heat transfer coefficient formula than that is vibrating in vertical direction, which means horizontal vibration parameter changing has more influence on melting rate.Electrode vibration made the melt pool shallower and grain size in center area of the ingots got decreased. There was much obvious widmanstatten structure in non vibration ingot, a kind of organization that not obvious or even not found in vibration conditions. Inclusions in horizontal vibration showed more uniform. The average diameter in electrode is about 6μm, after ESR, this number decline to about 2.5μm, the quantity of inclusions decreased 50% ~ 60% after ESR. Average diameter of inclusions was almost the same. Some individuals of inclusion reached the size of 100μm, according to the electrolysis test results. Most inclusions showed gobbets or massive in 3D shape, main composition were calcium silicates or aluminosilicates. Vibration had little influence on 3D shape and chemical composition of inclusions.
