As the gradual depletion of the traditional resources, natural gas hydrates begin toattract people's attention as a new kind of energy in recent years. A range oftechnologies based on hydrate have been proposed and studied. Compared to thetraditional methods, the conditions required by these new technologies are moremoderate. As a result, new technologies can reduce energy consumption, simplify theproduction process, and save equipment investment. So they have very broadapplication prospect. A major problem is how to improve the growth rate of hydrate, therefore, it is quite essential to study the effect of different factors on methanehydrate formation. In this paper, A series of experimental data on hydrate formation kinetics formethane in water-in-oil emulsions are presented. The influences of impeller speed, system temperature, the additive, diameter and water cut of water-in-oil emulsion andon the induction time and hydrate growth rate were investigated, respectively.Experimental results show that the induction time varies inversely with diameter andwater cut of water-in-oil emulsion, and directly with temperature. And the presence ofadditive can also shorten the induction time. The hydrate growth rate increases withthe increase of impeller speed and water cut of water-in-oil emulsion and the decreaseof temperature and diameter of water-in-oil emulsion. The effect of additive on thehydrate growth rate is very weak. Two kinetic models of methane hydrate formation in water-in-oil emulsion arestudied. On this basis, we chose to assume a normal distribution of induction time.Considering the single droplet model proposed by Didier, a global emulsion model isproposed.
