The morphological characteristics of species are closely related to their environment,with the direct contact between the hair and the external environment,the differences in the structure of the hair can reflect the evolution and adaptation of mammals.Hair is easy to obtain with less injury,and it is widely used in species identification.The expansion of hair database provides support for morphological classification of species,and is also important for revealing the adaptability of species to environmental changes.The upper hair of blue sheep were sampled from Zhongshan Park zoo,Lanzhou zoo,Tibetan Plateau wild zoo during July to August 2015,December 2015 to January 2016.The adults rescued form Helan mountains(? 4 ? 6),Qilian Mountains(? 3 ? 5),Bayanhar Mountains(?5?4)were captured,and the upper hair from neck,back,veutro,abdomen,hip,leg and hoof both in summer and winter were collected.The sample from the Helan mountain area also included samples collected in the field(?3?5)in December 2013 and two sheets of skins supported by administration bureau of Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve in January 16,2016(fully mature,?1?1).By using JCM-5000 scanning electron microscope and Olympus DP73 digital microscopic imaging system,we measured hair length,hair uncurled length,crimp ratio,medullary diameter of hair,diameter of hair,medullary index,absent medulla proportion of root and top,medulla pattern type,scale pattern type,the type and proportion of scales.The main results are as follows:1.The type of scale pattern and medulla pattern are not influenced by geographical pattern,medullary type is mainly wide continuous,scale pattern mainly includes coronal pattern,irregular wave scale and mask type and flat type in three regions.2.Legs and hooves with the largest proportion of cortex and absent medulla proportion of root,have main function about protection.3.The medullary index of hair in blue sheep was high,in addition to leg and hoof,medulla index remained above 90%.In order to cope with the cold environment,the upper hair length and diameter was horizontally and vertically increased at the same time,the proportion of medullary cavity was improve.The function about heat preservation keeps decreasing from the trunk to the limbs end of the trend.
