Sinian-Lower Paleozoic is one of the main exploration targets of Sichuan Basin with great gas potential. But gypsum bearing carbonate rock formations in Southern Sichuan area lack of research because of large buried depth, low quality seismic interpretation and absence of well drilling data. Therefore, carrying out model experiment of geological structures is of crucial importance to the structure interpretation and hydrocarbon accumulation pattern research. This paper studies the influence of gypsum on structural deformation process and trap formation and then makes three models which are based on the tectonic history research of typical structure in southern Sichuan area to explore the characteristics of structure deformation and possible forming pattern of gas reservoir. The experimental results which show the difference of deformation between the layer above gypsum stratum and the subjacent bed is similar to the characteristic of structures in work area.To be specific, overlying strata grows steeply inclined reverse faults and fault folds while underlying strata develops gentle thrust faults.Besides, the gypsum layer is proved to be efficient of blocking hydrocarbon. What is more, these experiments simulate three reservoir forming modes. After doing detail study of reservoir forming condition and trap feature, and with the guide of experiment results, this paper probes into the forming pattern of gas reservoir and classifies it into three types. Finally, the potential exploration targets of Cambrian formation are identified and optimized through the distribution of high abundance source rocks, sedimentary facies and high quality reservoirs.
