Since the end of eighteenth Century,offshore platform gradually run into the ocean development field.As the foundation of offshore platform,bucket foundation was contactet for the first time in the last century in 90 s.As a role of supporting the weight of the offshore platform,bucket foundation directly determine the working safety of ocean platform or not.So the study of bucket foundation is of great significance to ocean engineering.This paper does a series of studies in the bearing capacity of bucket foundation in the horizontal direction.According to the bucket foundation of existing offshore platform,bucket models are designed to do some experimental researches.The stable level tension was given by the way of air compressor driven double acting cylinder.The ultimate bearing capacity was divided into two different soil environment.The calculation formula of horizontal bearing capacity was given considering the soil parameters and the barrel model specification.Then the relative effects of soil environment and bucket model was simulated by finite element analysis software ABAQUS.The simulation results are obtained,and the results are compared with the experimental results.This paper shows that there is a small difference between the ultimate horizontal bearing capacity of the bucket model and the software simulation value.The experiments has a good precision.The formula for calculating the horizontal bearing capacity is practical.The study shows that the proposed method can be used to predict the ultimate bearing capacity of bucket foundation in practical engineering,and this method is more simple and reliable.
