The astrometry of planets and their satellites in our solar system always has important meaning.Position measurement is an important part of astrometry. The main purpose of position measurement is to improve the orbital theory of the planets and their satellites for the solar system space exploration. The images of Saturn from ground-based telescopes are surface elements. When Saturn is positioned,it is necessary to measure its central position. Therefore,it is an important part to accurately detect the edges of the image.Existing edge detection method is mainly includes the whole pixel level and the subpixel level, the traditional whole pixel detection method is some form of simple differential operator, such as Sobel operator,Prewitt operator,Roberts operator,Canny operator, log operator, etc. In the astrometry of Saturn images,Edge detection is only a part of the whole calculation.Different edge detection algorithms were used and the effects of the different edge detection algorithms on the accuracy were compared in this paper. Our main work includes the following sections:1.In the processing of Saturn images, the edge extraction algorithm of differentdetection operators was realized.2.The whole process and part of the program for the reduction of Saturn has beenimplemented.3.75 images were used to compare the effects of different edge detection operators.Experimental results show that the measuring precision of subpixel edge detection is higher than the measuring accuracy of pixel level.Subpixel method can bring better accuracy, and it can be considered in star positioning measurement for surface elements.
