China's new generation of Polar Orbiting Meteorological Satellite FY-3C satellite have launched successfully,carrying the new Microwave Temperature Sounder ?(MWTS ?)and the new Microwave Humidity Sounder ?(MWHS ?)which have high detection accuracy.It provides a large number of observations for numerical prediction system.It is important to research the role of MWTS ? and MWHS ? observation data in numerical prediction,and achieve the direct data assimilation of MWTS ? and MWHS ? observations in data assimilation system.The paper studies the technologies of MWTS ? and MWHS ? observation data assimilation in WRFDA assimilation system,and the quality of MWHS ? and MWTS ? observations.Experiments are carried out to test the effect of MWHS ? and MWTS ? observation data on numerical prediction.We could achieve the following main results and conclusions through the researches and experiments.(1)With using the statistical method of the difference value of observation radiance brightness and background simulation brightness,the observation minus background bias is analyzed.The MWTS ? and MWHS ? channels performance and observation data quality is evaluated with the analyzing results.The results show that some observations of MWTS ? and MWHS ? channels could be assimilated,and the quality of the 118.75 GHz probe channels in MWHS ? is very good in all channels,that makes 118.75 probe channels a good assimilation potentiality.(2)After studying the quality of MWTS ? and MWHS ? observations and the WRFDA system,the technologies of bias correction,quality control and cloud detection is researched.We have achieved the assimilation of MWTS ? and MWHS ? observations in WRFDA assimilation system.(3)The assimilation and numerical prediction experiment was carried to forecast the typhoon ‘Kalmaegi'.The experiment shows that MWTS ? and MWHS ? observation data were found to have a certain effect on the generation of the assimilation system.The MWTS ? and MWHS ? observation data in numerical system has a positive effect on the path prediction but little effect on the intensity forecast of the typhoon forecasting.
