Microalgae have great potential applications in various fields.However,the production and operation cost of the traditional microalgae culture system is too high.In the traditional microalgae culture,the C source is supplied by CO2.So,the mixing required is too high,and the production cost of microalgae culture is increased.Therefore,microalgae were cultured in a reactor on a shaking platform with BICCAPS to reduce the production cost In this paper,the ability to cultivate microalgae and the mixing characteristics were studied.First,on the small-scale shaking platform,the Euhalothece were cultured under different conditions.It was found that the highest cell density was 2.73g/L.Four groups of experiments show that the carbon source in the form of sodium bicarbonate stored in the culture medium,without additional CO2,microalgae cell density will reach a high level.Thus fully proving the feasibility of the BICCAPS.Then,the mass transfer coefficient of the oxygen(kLa),the mixing time and the light absorption characteristics were studied.The k La values of the light path of the 2.5,5.0,7.5 and 10 cm of the reactor were 33.49,5.76,3.86 and 1.04 h-1,respectively.And kLa values of the different light path were 1.50,1.15,0.57 and 0.84 h-1,respectively.The mixing time were similar to other photobioreactor.The results show that the light and dark cycle frequency(0 ~ 0.2s-1)of the system is similar to that of the open cell,but lower than that of the general photobioreactor,Therefore,it need to be further optimized.Finally,a water-driven shaker was used in outdoor,the miroalgae were cultured in a photobioreactor which was 100cm*100cm.The k La,the mixing time and the photoreceptor characteristics were studied.After 13 days of culture,the density of Euhalothece reached 1.36g/L,and the cell density of Dunaliella was 0.41g/L,and the density of Neochloris oleoabundans could reach 1.06 g/L.After 9 days of culture,the density of Chlorella cells can reach 1.34g/L.Also in the mixing characteristics have reached the open pool level.It was shown that this system is suitable for culturing some algae.BICCAPS shaking platform system has the characteristics of saving energy,low cost of reactor production,low supply of carbon and less manpower maintenance.This system is expected to use natural energy to drive the platform,will greatly reduce the production cost of microalgae.
