Plasma generated by the discharge at atmospheric pressure is normally low temperature plasma.For atmospheric pressure plasma can be worked continuously and without the vacuum system,its equipment is simple,and cost is cheap.The treatment of fabric by atmospheric pressure low temperature plasma is a dry process,and it has fast,high efficiency,environmental protection,energy saving and other advantages.So atmospheric pressure low temperature plasma has a wide range of applications in the field of material surface modification.Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)is one of the important synthetic materials,which is widely used in many fields.Traditional industrial treatment of PET fabric,generally using chemical modification methods,will seriously pollute the surrounding natural environment.The surface modification of PET fabric using atmospheric pressure low temperature plasma technology can improve the alkali decrement process of the traditional industry,and reduce the chemical pollution.In this paper,according to fabric treatment processing requirements,an atmospheric dielectric barrier discharge(DBD)device was designed.And the treatment of PET fabric is studied systematically,and the discharge characteristics of plasma were also studied.With different sizes of hollow electrode,the effect of electrode shape on discharge was studied,and the effects of different fabrics in the discharge space are studied simultaneously.By adjusting the device and optimizing the discharge parameters,uniform and stable micro discharge Ar/O2 plasma was obtained.PET fabric was treated by the low temperature plasma combining with alkali treatment,and its treatment effects were compared with the effects only using plasma treatment and alkali treatment.Through the field emission scanning electron microscope(SEM),the surface morphology of the fabric and the change of the diameter of the fiber in the fabric were analyzed.The results showed that the plasma combining with alkali treatment could get a better etching effect.
