As an integral part of the Jiangnan Orogenic Belt, the Niuwu Formation, outcropped in South Anhui,is a series of flysch terrigenous clastic rocks. At the base of structural geology, sedimentary geology, the following major progress was made after the research about tectonic stratigraphic, framework and tectonic paleogeographic characteristics.1.the Niuwu Formation include in LiKou Group,Reshape the stratigraphic sequence of LiKou Group in the Southern Anhui, which can be divided into the Huansha Formation/Mukeng Formation,Niuwu Formation/Yangzhan Ling Formation,Puling Formation.2.Identify a Fan subfacies,a Middle Fan subfacies and an Outer Fan subfacies.the depositional sequence of the focus study area is of upward change from fine to coarse.3.As the data of small oblique bedding of NiuWu Formation have shown paleocurrent direction is NE or NNE.4.As the statistics analysis of the detrital framework mode of the sandstone in the Niuwu of study area shows, the type of its provenance may be recycled orogen provenances.According to the above data, the Niuwu Formation developed in the peripheral foreland basin, the characteristics of evolutional stages of Jiangnan orogenic belt are discussed.
