The High-Definition Earth Observation Satellite program is one of the 16 main programs set by the guidelines on national medium and long-term program for science and technology development(2006-2020).The program was started in 2010,and by this year it had established a complete ground system. As the first satellite of the program,Gaofen-1(GF-1)has been launched successfully in 2013.Gaofen-2(GF-2)is the first civil optical remote sensing satellite with the resolution of being superior to 1m which is researched and developed by our nation independently, which symbolizes our remote sensing satellite enters intosub-meter "GF" era.Satellite remote sensing images have become one of the significant enabling technologies in land resource layout,decision-making and management because of its objective, macroscopic and fast ground observation capability. The quality of the data determines the availability of information, the quality assesment about the image is an important guarantee for the operation and application of satellites. We can also obtainthe prior knowledge of image processing and information extraction through the quality assesment and feature analysis of satellite images, which is helpful to the popularization and utilization of highresolution satellite images and the development of successor satellites. This is the starting point and the foothold of this study. This paperrelys on the scientific research project of Sichuan Provincial Land and Resources Department,"domestic satellite remote sensing data in land use monitoring and status change survey validation and promotion research".The quality assesment and feature analysis of GF-2 imagesare important contents in this paper, which can provide reference for the application and development of Gaofen satellites and lay the foundation for fully excavating the application value of Gaofen series satellite. The main work and achievements are as follows:(1)The optimum band combination, the best fusion method and the geometric correction precision of the image are obtained by testing the band combination, image fusion and geometric correction in image processing. The mapping scale of GF-2 images is analyzed. Those results can provide reference for application of GF-2 images;(2)The overlap of GF-1 and GF-2 satellite images is the study area, which also have the same imaging time. The qualitative and quantitative assesment of the GF-2 satellite imaging quality has been obtained by image engineering quality analysis and assesment from the geographical element visual analysis, the gray statistic, the amount of informatio, the texture features,as well as image energy features and other aspects;(3)From the perspective of information extraction,The spectral features of typical ground objects of the GF-1 and GF-2multi-spectral images were analyzed and compared through the separability and supervised classification test of the samples, which has verified the ability of information extraction by using GF-2 satellite images;(4)The modulation transfer function(MTF)is a very accurate evaluation index on optical system performance, which is often used to assess the image quality. In this thesis, the modulation transfer function of panchromatic image is obtained by edge method. The spatial resolution of GF-2 satellite panchromatic camera is quantitatively evaluated by analyzing the FWHM value and theMTF value at Nyquist frequency.
