A diagnostic model based on Kawai and Kawamura 2002 is implemented in study diurnal variation of sea surface temperature(DSST).The coefficients of the model are calculated by linear fitting from observations of NDBC buoys.Three sets of 30-year DSST analysis data are produced based on surface wind and shortwave of CFSR,NCEP-Reanalysis 2 and ERA-Interim reanalysis respectively,and the comparison of those DSST was conducted.It is shown that the overall trend of the three DSST data sets are consistent with observations.The DSST data derived by CFSR match with observation best.It could be the principal reason that the resolution of CFSR is higher than that of NCEP-Reanalysis 2 and ERA-Interim.Temporal and spatial characteristics of DSST analysis show that DSST are non-homogeneous significantly.The average DSST of the northern hemisphere is greater than that of the southern hemisphere.Tropical area gets the highest high value areas such as tropical Pacific Ocean,Indian Ocean and the eastern tropical Pacific warm pool region.DSST has obvious seasonal variation.DSST in the Western Pacific Warm Pool area reach its peak in the autumn.DSST in the eastern Pacific is large and does not change much in all season.DSST in tropical Atlantic does not change significantly.Due to the monsoon influence in the Indian Ocean.DSST in the Arabian Sea and the Bengal bay is smaller in summer than in winter.Long term variation of DSST is not significant but with noticeable inter-annual oscillation.The overall tendency of that is a descending trend.ENSO and DSST have good correlation.A two-dimensional ocean mixed layer model is implemented in study DSST characteristics in 1980-2009,and the results are verified with IMET buoy observations.The two-dimensional ocean mixed layer model can simulate the diurnal changes of SST amplitude and phase very well according validation.Compare DSST from dynamic model and experience model was conducted after the analysis of the variation characteristics of DSST simulation.
