The trend of biodiversity loss has not been effectively curbed because people do not have a good understanding of the biodiversity value. The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity(TEEB)is an integrated approach system dominated by UNEP,including biological diversity and ecosystem services evaluation, demonstration and policy application.TEEB evaluates and propagates the biodiversity value by revealing the relationship between biodiversity and human well-being.Also the TEEB stresses the important role of biodiversity and ecosystem services value in the biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, strengthens the public's understanding of biodiversity value, and eventually provides a new theory, method and technical support for the management of biodiversity. The value of species is one of the important aspects of biodiversity value.Species can not only provide products as our daily needs, but also servein scientific research and aesthetic. At present, species value assesses mainly on the rare and endangered species, while lacks of research methods and study cases. Therefore,on the bases of summarizing the domestic and foreign research status of TEEB,the paper systematically analyzes the biodiversity value and the estimationmethod, then taking the rare birds—Crossoptilonmantchuricum as research object and assessing the non-use value. The results are as follows:(1)There are use value and non-use value in assessment of species value.Use value includes direct use value and indirect use value, and non-use value includes existence value, option value and bequest value.Three methods including market price method, substitute market method and hypothetical market method could be used in assessing the species values. The last two methods can be used for the non-use value assessment of the rare and endangered species.Conditional value assessment method(CVM),as a typical declarative preference assessment method,is the most popularmethod in assessing the natural resource and environment economic value.Based on the principle of utility maximization, using questionnaire method,The CVM analyzesthe willingness to pay or compensation for a specific environmental resources or service in a simulation market and reveals the respondents preference of environmental resources and services. Then through the statistical analysis,The value of the environmental resources could be calculated.CVM is considered to be the only method that can be used to assess environmental goods and services of non-use value by now.(2)The object of this thesis is Crossoptilonmantchuricum, national protected animal, which mainly distributes in Shanxi province. This research takes contingent valuation method(CVM)to evaluate the non-use value of the Crossoptilonmantchuricum.Specifically by investigating the respondents' willingness to pay(WTP)for existence value, select value and genetic value.Thenusing the median value calculation method and Spike corrective modal, the research get the resultsthat the non-use value of Crossoptilonmantchuricum is between 0.366 billion yuan and 1.201 billion yuan,in which the existence value is 0.153-0.503 billion yuan, option value is 0.115-0.378 billion yuan and the genetic value is 0.098-0.320 billion yuan.(3)By using LOGIT model, thefactors that affecting the respondents willingness to pay for Crossoptilonmantchuricum were empirically estimated. The results show that the cognition degree to Crossoptilonmantchuricum, the times people met it,respondents'education level, income level have positive impact on respondents' WTP,while the age of respondents has negative effect.Overall, the times respondents met it and the cognition degree have higher parameters. This study assesses the non-use value of providing a quantitative reference to the protection for Crossoptilonmantchuricum. It also has important practical meaning for the methods of TEEB.
