The research in particle detectors is cornerstone of any scientific experiment, especially or neutron detection, which is widely used in many fields. Traditional planar neutron detectors with conversion material suffer form self absorption problem, which causes low detection efficiency. Although the 3He gas detector is a possible solution, it is a very limited resource with relatively low accessibility. Therefore searching new high-efficiency neutron detector technology research for 3He replacement is very urgent. This paper proposed a design scheme based on the micro-structured silicon neutron detector of the groove.In order to explore the possibility of the micro structure design, we use method of Monte Carlo simulation to build the detector model and exam the possibility of the high efficiency micro structure detector.The core part of the micro structure detector is its micro structure of the groove the solid neutron conversion material(6Li F or 10B), because the three-dimensional structure can achieve higher efficiency of thermal neutron detection, which therefore improves the detection efficiency(<5%) of planar semiconductor detectors.The geometrical model of the micro structure detector is built by FLUKA. We study the effect of the detection efficiency through simulation. The results show that detection efficiency decreases with trench gap increases; and the width change reaches the highest point when trench gap keeps constant; detection efficiency increases with deeper trench, but with a certain limit.We conclude the paper by summarising the process of designing a micro structure detector as well as a complete micro structure detector. At the same time, the detection scheme is described with detailed explination of the project and the tools for future research purposes.In this paper, we focus on the physical design of micro structure of detector with high efficiency, and predict the optimal parameters of the proposed thermal neutron detector.The distinct features such as high efficiency, small size, fast response time, low power and the ability to integrate with readout electronics can be widely used in neutron scattering studies, homeland security, inventory verification and neutron dose protection.
