Land reclamation is an important means to increase the effective area of cultivated land, ensure total crop land dynamic balance and guarantee food security. Land reclamation as a multidisciplinary and comprehensive technical measures which includes leveling project, country road engineering, irrigation and drainage engineering and erosion and torrent control works etc. Due to land reclamation work starts relatively late in China, the relevant land reclamation technology is not perfect. The current land reclamation planning generally design in 2D plane. But with the deepening of the land reclamation work, land reclamation projects not only involve plains, but also involve the hilly areas. Using the previous 2D design, Its vertical design effect is not ideal due to inability to express elevation information. In addition, judging from the present condition, a series of progress has been made in our country in terms of DEM visual design, DEM construction and analysis, agricultural hydraulic engineering, earthwork calculation and so on and has provided technical and theoretical support to the research. By collecting literature, land use map, topographic map and combining with the land reclamation planning requirements, We set up DEM of the project area for global design in 3D space to make planning have a better visual effect and for future land reclamation project planning for reference. The main research results are as follows:(1) The DEM can effectively simulate the topography of project area which provides a more intuitive basis for auxiliary decision of land reclamation planning especially hilly areas. Furthermore we designed earthwork calculation of flat area by DEM.(2) On the basis of the built DEM, we acquired proposed country road profile.(3) Through the hydrology analysis, we obtained the distribution of river valley of the project area and determined the position of drainage ditches by the distribution and its direction of the valley.(4) By calculating the slope of the project area and making a re-classification slope map, and according to the second national land survey, we gained the slope map of five levels and distribution.Through the above theory and empirical research, we draw the following main conclusions that land reclamation is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive technical engineering. On the basis of summarizing and drawing lessons from existing technology and research, we should make global optimization for the project design of land reclamation in visual research, rather than focus on the single content. And the application of DEM and GIS in land reclamation planning has the feasibility and practicability which provides a gist for land reclamation planning especially hilly areas.
