As a ground point elevation measurement technology, space-borne laser altimeter has currently been one of the important technical means for satellite to get access to the three-dimensional spatial geographic information on earth. The ICESat satellite launched by the United States in 2003 carried on the world's first satellite laser altimeter system GLAS, which is used for continuous observation of the earth, and the elevation precision of laser altimeter data up to 15 cm and can be applied to the polar ice sheet and sea ice monitoring, vegetation height measurement and biomass estimation, etc. The domestic laser altimeter satellite GF-7 will be launched in 2017 and as remote sensing image control points, the laser altimeter data can be used for generating 1:50000 scale topographic map, quickly generating 1:25000 even 1:10000 scale topographic map, which is of great significance for domestic surveying and mapping satellite to improve no control points mapping precision and emergency service ability. At the same time the global three-dimensional control points obtained by GF-7 can be used for overseas stereo mapping, which is also of important strategic significance for national defense and scientific research. Bases on GLAS laser altimeter data, method on using these data as generalized elevation control points is researched, GLAS generalized elevation control point database is established to realize effective management and maintenance of data, and applications combining with ZY-3 three linear array images is accomplished.The main research contents and achievements of this paper are followed as:(1) The data source condition of GLAS generalized elevation control point database is introduced, included ICESat mission profiles, GLAS geoscience laser altimetry system, the ICESat elevation measurement principle, the standard data products, and application field of ICESat laser altimeter data. The study on data products mainly focuses on GLA01 and GLA14 products.(2) The concept of GLAS generalized elevation control point is proposed and content of GLAS generalized elevation control point is expounded.(3) Data processing procedure of GLAS generalized elevation control point is described, and GLAS laser altimeter data was filtered by compared with SRTM data, GLA14 data parameters and GLA01 waveform data respectively, then the accuracy and precision of GLAS data after every filtering is estimated, and block adjustment principle based on GLAS generalized elevation control point is introduced.(4) GLAS database is developed based on Oracle database, and database design, data input process as well as implementation of database management system are described detailed.(5) Satellite images block adjustment software based on GLAS generalized elevation control point database is developed and preliminary application on ZY-3 stereo images block adjustment is finished combined with field control points and image control points, and good results have been achieved.
