In nature there are many different kinds of plants, they are important component of nature. Virtual plant research involves many scientific fields, such as including computer science, applied mathematics, randomization process, physics, biology, agriculture and so on.Virtual plant modeling has become a hot topic in today's society for individuals or communities.Virtual plants shape modeling is the key of virtual plant research, the morphological diversity and plasticity of plant in the process of growth bring opportunity and challenge for the study of the method of virtual plant modeling. L-system is one of the most effective methods of the virtual plant morphological expression and model construction, It can conform to the plant's growth mechanism and conducive to the computer visualization. Therefore, this paper studies the plant morphology evolution strategy and methods based on the study of different methods of virtual plant modeling using gene expression programming theory and L-system.Base on using L-system to build plants descriptive model and according to the principle of encoding and structure of the gene expression programming, in this paper, mapping the character set and the production of L-system to character set of open reading frames and K-expression in order to meet the initial coding scheme which can meet plant morphological evolution, then, according to the principle of gene expression programming, we proposed the fitness function based on tree effective evaluation on the similarity to obtain the optimal solution through the study of the genetic and evolution of genetic operation. Finally, we have the best individual or a community conform to the mechanism of plant growth. In this paper, the research work mainly includes the following aspects:1.This paper studies and analizes the method for modeling virtual plant morphology deeply which can satisfy the demands of plant morphological diversity and plasticity and to explore effective ways and methods for plants form expression.Plant morphological modeling theory and method have both similarities and differences, the feasibility and effectiveness of the model is the starting point for research of the virtual plant model. In this paper, based on current research of virtual plant modeling method, considering the requirements of the plant morphological evolution, the computer visual simulation is carried out using L-system to express plant morphogenesis process.L-system is a typical parallel character generation system, it has unique advantage on the expression of plant morphogenesis and is one of the most effective methods of virtual plant modeling. This paper analyzes the different models of L-system, which lays the foundation for the theory and method for the evolution of plant morphogenesis.2.Based on the effective expression of plant morphogenesis, we research the key technology of gene expression programming to meeting the requirements of plant morphological evolution.On the basis of a descriptive model of plant morphogenesis, this article introduces the key technology, algorithm process, and application and methods of gene expression programming in plant morphogenesis in more detail. The gene expression programming can quickly search the optimal solution to promote the advantages of plant morphological evolution to meet the phenotypic plasticity and diversity of plants, and then according to set the fitness function value of the set or the largest number of iterations to select individual in the population, we get the best plant type finally.3.In view of the research on theory of L-system, for the most natural plant morphological evolution and selection of the optimal plant configuration, we have to improve the traditional L-system and the plant morphological evaluation function.Based on the basic theory of L-system(synchronous concurrency theory), considering that most of the plants in the nature is asynchronous concurrent, in order to make the simulation plants more realistic, We joined environment symbols and time step in the traditional L-system to control concurrent asynchronous phenomenon, Evaluating the three dimensional simulation plants, juding whether the individual has entered the next generation, considering fully the topological structure and the external contour of plant, fitness function was proposed based on tree similarity, it effectively evaluate the similarity between simulation plants with the target plants.4.Based on the above research of L-system, this paper proposes an adaptive intelligent virtual plant evolution model, which combines L-system with gene expression programming methods, to put forward on plant morphological evolution and expression.As far as possible in order to reduce the manual intervention in the process of modeling to obtain the model parameters and production automatically. This paper proposes an adaptive plant morphological evolution model based on gene expression programming and L-system to optimize the design of the plant type and meet the needs of users after obtaining a large number of fine individual at the same time. L-system is realized by using VC++ programming language grammar simulation plants.
