Color plants have broad application prospects in city color landscape. This study explored the photosynthetic physiology, shade tolerance and drought resistance of four color plants including Swide alba ‘Aurea',Ginkgo biloba‘Golden leaf',Cercis canadensis‘Forest Pansy',Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf'.The study aimed to provide a theoretical basis for the introduced and arrangement of the four color plants. The results showed that:1.The light saturation point of Swide alba ‘Aurea',Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf',Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy',Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' were 30.69,67.87,35.27 and 74.14?mol·m-2·s-1.The light compensation point of Swide alba ‘Aurea',Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf',Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy',Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' were 1448.67,1472.62,1470.84 and 1326.59?mol·m-2·s-1.Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' and Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' belonged to shade intolerant positive species.Swide alba ‘Aurea' and Cercis canadensis‘Forest Pansy'belonged to a little shade intolerant positive species.2.The diurnal variation of photosynthetic rate of Swide alba ‘Aurea' and Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' were unimodality in spring and autumn and were bimodality in summer. The maximum net photosynthetic rate of daily average value of Swide alba ‘Aurea' and Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy' appeared in summer, while Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' and Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' appeared in autumn.3.The greatest impact upon net photosynthetic rate of Swide alba ‘Aurea' and Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' were photosynthetically active radiation in spring, autumn and summer. The greatest impact upon net photosynthetic rate of Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' were the transpiration rate in in spring, relative humidity in summer, and photosynthetically active radiation in autumn. The greatest impact upon net photosynthetic rate of Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy' were relative humidity in spring, photosynthetically active radiation in summer and autumn.4.The light energy utilization of Swide alba ‘Aurea',followed by 0.64%,0.63% and 0.02% in spring, summer and autumn. The light energy utilization of Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf',followed by 0.43%,1.17% and 0.94% in spring, summer and autumn. The light energy utilization of Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf',followed by 0.65%,0.92% and 0.53% in spring, summer and autumn. The light energy utilization of Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy',followed by 0.65%,0.92% and 0.53% in spring, summer and autumn. The light energy utilization of Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' in spring, summer and autumn, followed by 0.59%,0.48% and 0.41% in spring, summer and autumn. The light energy utilization of Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' and Cercis canadensis‘Forest Pansy' were highest in summer. The light energy utilization of Swide alba ‘Aurea' And Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' were highest in spring.5.The efficiency of water application of Swide alba ‘Aurea',followed by 2.3194,4.6796 and 4.5300?mol CO2·mmol-1 H2 O in spring, summer and autumn. The efficiency of water application of Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf',followed by 2.8427,5.5144 and 2.6503?mol CO2·mmol-1 H2 O in spring, summer and autumn. The efficiency of water application of Cercis canadensis‘Forest Pansy',followed by 2.6578,2.9505 and 4.8467?mol CO2·mmol-1 H2 O in spring, summer and autumn. The efficiency of water application of Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf',followed by 2.7845,1.0465 and 2.8268?mol CO2·mmol-1 H2 O in spring, summer and autumn. The drought resistance of Swide alba ‘Aurea' was weak in spring and strong in summer and autumn. The drought resistance of Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' was strongest in summer, and the drought resistance ablity was stronger in spring than in autumn. The drought resistance of Cercis canadensis‘Forest Pansy' was strongest in autumn, and the drought resistance ablity was stronger in summer than in spring. The drought resistance of Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' was weak in summer and was strong in spring and autumn.6.Ginkgo biloba ‘Golden leaf' had the characteristics of big and tall with beautiful leaf color which was suitable as roadside trees and court shade trees.Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy' blossoms before leaves, the color of flowers and leaves were all good.It can be planted as a clump or as a group. The shape of Ulmus pumila var.pendula ‘Golden leaf' was unique which like an umbrella and it also had beautiful leaf color. It can be planted on roadside or as a clump on the lawn.Swide alba ‘Aurea' had beautiful leaves and the branches also very beautiful after the leaves falling down in winter. It can be planted around the edge of the woods and the lawn as a clump or as a line.It can create colorful, spectacular visual effects with a reasonable application of color plants and evergreen or deciduous trees.
