Automobile manufacture level in our country has been in a relatively backward state, now the domestic vehicle market has long been joint brand monopoly, and in 2015, after the end of the term of protection of the China’s accession to the WTO, the domestic car market will be fully open to the public, can say in the field of automobile manufacturing, Chinese enterprises urgently need a full range of ascension. Improvement of production technology, so R&D and R&D investment belong to the category of goods tube, is a high risk, profit, slower spending as a result, each enterprise’s senior management team on its preferences also each are not identical, therefore, senior management team characteristics on the influence of R&D input is very important. Previous literature research based on the theory of high order, the executive team demographic background features the ability to work as a cognitive and executive generation variables, investigated its relations with R&D. But the scholars did not put the two relations in study to the enterprise’s environment, lead to differences of research conclusion. So this article introducing the brand effect of the regulating variable, illustrate different performance under the environment of enterprise, executive team demographic background characteristics influence on R&D are also different.Based on vehicle industry as research samples, senior management team characteristics data from the vehicle 2007-2013 annual report of listed companies, all sample data to return first, study the vehicle industry senior management team characteristics and the relationship between R&D input, and then according to the brand effect, the sample is divided into the joint venture brands and independent brand group is analyzed, through descriptive statistics, comparing the data of two groups of samples, and find out the reason of the difference of data, and then through the correlation analysis, to the preliminary demonstration of research hypothesis, the last group regression analysis, to study the brand effect to the senior management team characteristics and R&D relations adjustment, finally this article conclusion, then, according to the conclusion for the whole car industry status, put forward the corresponding suggestion.The results show that the empirical results show that the age of the senior management team, members of engineering specialty of positively correlated with R&D, senior women accounted for and the heterogeneity of term and professional background and negatively correlated with R&D, independent brands group senior management team characteristics on the impact of R&D spending than joint brand group. For joint brand enterprises, this paper puts forward three Suggestions:(1) strengthen the evaluation of executives re-election mechanism,(2) to establish a long-term salary incentive mode,(3) the government should strengthen to our country the construction of the basic subjects and drop into the control of the vehicle industry market. For independent brand enterprise, this paper puts forward two Suggestions:(1) by strengthening the executive compensation incentive, in order to reduce the turnover rate of executives,(2) reduce the time of senior management team a term, strengthen the term examination, so as to achieve the aim of promoting enterprise R&D.
